Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder was previously something that people kept hidden from others for fear of embarassment but recently there has been so much on tv and in the media bout it that people are much more open.
People can ocd about all different kinds of things but the ones that get spoken about the most are an obsessive need to keep things clean such as hand washing to keep away germs.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a blanket term that covers many different disorders and this is the manifestation or the visible signs with all the real causes hidden underneath it.
It is said that 1 in 50 people in the UK have Obsessive compulsive disorder and there are even television programs about people that have things like ocd that is reflected in obsessive cleaning.
A lady that lost her son told us that when she thinks about her sons death she starts to clean and that fills her mind and takes her pain away.
Another lady told us that her husband works away and she is just at home with the dog so she fills her time with cleaning. This was the start of her obsessive compulsive disorder and now she still cleans when her husband is home.
Normally obsessive compulsive disorder has some kind of trigger in the past that means people do things obsessivly to be able to take conrol of one part of their lives. This is often because they have no control in another part of their life or they didnt at one point so they are overcompensating.
